In light of everything that’s happened this week…and, to be honest, for far too long in general, I felt this song was more than appropriate. Thoughts with those who lost their loved ones. Make it stop.
Single #2 from Red Hot Chili Peppers has been released, and it’s as fun as the first! Opening with that familiar funky beat we all love, ‘The Getaway’ sets out to become yet another fan favourite from the new album.
The Chili Peppers have a real knack for making music that you just can’t help but dance to and ‘The Getaway’ is no exception. Despite lyrics that don’t exactly scream ‘exciting’ in any way, Anthony Keidis’ chilled-out vocals combined with Klinghoffer’s cool guitar riff and backing vocals through the chorus allow this song to still exude that feel-good vibe that is so common with the Chili Peppers. The same can be said of Flea’s subtle but funky bass riff, which really keeps the song on its feet.
My only critique of ‘The Getaway’ has to be the song’s abrupt ending. The cutoff makes the song seem shorter than it should be, and even unfinished. Hopefully the album version sees a more gradual fade out. That said, I’m still a big fan of the song and can’t wait to hear what else they have to offer!
It’s safe to say that Asking Alexandria have established the fact that they’re bigger and better with new front man Denis Stoff, and their new music video for ‘Here I Am’ is only further proof of this.
